Character Education
James Mowat prides itself on its' character education program. Each month the school holds an assembly to celebrate student accomplishments and introduce a "Word of the Month". Activities to support the word of the month are then continued in the classrooms. The following is a list of the words we have chosen for the 2011-12 school year. Please check the calendar for the scheduling of the assemblies.

| October | Tolerance - Willing to respect the dignity and rights of all people; even those whose beliefs differ from our own. |
| November | Support - To provide for; to assist in performance. |
| December | Caring - Feeling concern about or for others. |
| January | Passion - A strong fondness or enthusiasm towards anything. |
| February | Teamwork - A cooperative effort of a group acting together as a team or in the interest of a common cause. |
| March | Integrity - Strong moral character; honesty. |
| April | Safety - The state of being safe; freedom from the risk of injury or danger. |
| May | Accountability - Responsible to someone or for some action; answerable. |
