Our School

Grades Taught

James Mowat Elementary School is a K-6 school serving approximately 400 students each year from the westernmost part of Fort Saskatchewan.  In addition to the regular elementary curriculum for grades 1 to 6, the school offers a comprehensive music program at all grade levels, and French as a Second Language is taught in grades 4 to 6.  Students attend ten class periods per day and each class is 32 minutes in length.

Our Way to Go Blue Jay positive referral recognizes students for their positive choices focusing on being Kind, being Safe, and being Responsible.  Our Citizenship Program promotes and supports the Safe and Caring Schools concept in the following ways: weekly circle time, Way to Go Blue Jay positive referrals, and citizenship projects.

We also recognize our students’ academic achievements through our Jay Achievement Award which focuses on academic excellence, academic growth, and academic effort.

Our school counsellor is in our school Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  She helps to support students and teachers as they work with our students.

A number of extracurricular activities and theme days are available to students throughout the school year.
